Do you think your eyelashes are pretty? Are you happy with their thickness, length, color?
I wasn’t with mine for long years! My lashes used to be sparse, brittle, dull-looking. I sometimes prefered to leave them as they were and didn’t even wear mascara because makeup removal entailed lots of lashes falling out. This was the time when I didn’t know that there are lots of things affecting the health of lashes. And these include lash care.
What are the needs of eyelashes?
We usually forget that lashes are actually hair. They’re smaller, stiffer and play different function than head hair but they’re still hair. The state of lashes depends on the way we care for them and whether we deliver essential ingredients for growth and repair.
Eyelash care is quite a challenge. Lashes need moisturizing as well as protection from various factors, plus you should provide them with substances necessary for repair – vitamins (A, E, group B), minerals (silicon, zinc, sulphate), fatty acids (especially omega-3 and omega-6).
It all seems very complicated, doesn’t it? Especially when all your efforts are in vain and lashes are damaged because of some other factors.
What makes lashes worse? Causes of lash loss
Things that harm eyelashes, might make them fall out in excess and break include:
- wrong, too energetic makeup removal.
- rubbing the eyes.
- sleeping with makeup on or not removing it thoroughly.
- mascara that hasn’t been tested, formula based on chemical substances.
- too much mascara in a single application.
- overuse of fake lashes or wrongly-performed procedure.
- fake lash adhesive irritation or allergy.
- air pollution, toxins, smog, etc.
How to strengthen eyelashes? The best methods
As far as the most popular remedies for sparse lashes are concerned, the Internet is divided into fans of three options. Let me tell you briefly about each one because you might find the one made for you among them.
1. Lash growth serum
You can make lashes strong and healthy again, lengthen them and add volume by using a lash serum. Of course it can’t be a random product – they don’t all work the same so you need to make sure the ingredients are appropriate and search for highest-rated serums. I recommend Nanolash – as far as lash serums are concerned, this one has the best composition, the lightest and longest-lasting formula and the price isn’t that scary. Regular application of this kind of serum guarantees stunning, strong lashes after 3-4 weeks without much effort.
2. Castor oil lash treatment
A cheaper, still popular option. Personally, I’m a fan of professional products but I know that castor oil applied to lashes works wonders – it boosts their color, strengthens, prevents lash loss and might even thicken them. Still, everything depends on the initial state of lashes and their proneness to the effect of oiling therapy. Sadly, using castor oil doesn’t work for everybody so you can’t be sure it will make your lashes better. Still, it’s worth a try! How to use it? You need to apply pure, cold-pressed castor oil regularly e.g. using an old mascara wand.
3. Professional in-salon procedures
Finally, something for those who are more into immediate results and aren’t afraid of spending big bucks. Lash treatments in professional salons. They consist in repairing lashes wit strengthening blends of substances e.g. keratin. Lash tint and lash lift are growing in popularity. Even though the procedures take little time, the price is high whereas the results don’t last long.
Home methods to make lashes healthier
Even if you used or regularly use one of the above-said methods, I suggest other home treatments for lovely eyelashes. They won’t do harm but might help.
What’s worth testing if we want to have strong lashes?
- Lash combing – take a clean mascara brush or a lash comb and comb lashes regularly because by doing so you stimulate blood flow and strengthen hair follicles.
- Other lash oils – apart from castor oil which is quite thick and sometimes hard to use, you can get good results with other oils (I recommend argan, almond or coconut oil).
- Vaseline for lashes – use it for making lashes stronger, shinier and mostly to prevent loss of moisture by creating a protective barrier.
- Green tea – use it like a compress (soak cotton pads in tea and put them on your eyes) since green tea has antioxidant effect as well as moisturizes and delivers a bomb of valuable vitamins.
That’s it. I’ve shared all of my ideas for keeping lashes healthy and lovely-looking. Share yours since there still might be a thing worth testing!
